French Festival
Location: All around the township
Date: 6th, 7th & 8th of October
The pinnacle of the Akaroa events calendar returns this October bigger and brighter than ever. The festival is spread over three days and kicks off with a street party on the Friday night.
The Saturday begins with a dramatised reenactment by the first settlers arrival. A parade then wanders down Rue Lavaud to the market day. Here the festival really kicks into life. Roving entertainment, food stalls, local wine and beer, numerous bands, French games and the penatque competition will keep you entertained all day. Once the sun sets Le Cabaret will keep the dancing going until late.
Sunday sees the first family day at the Onuku Marae (11am – 3pm). There will be free buses leaving from Akaroa to attend the event. There is no parking available at Onuku. There is a powhiri at 11am and a hangi at 12:30
A majority of the events are free however Le Cabaret is $25.00 p/p and for the powhiri on the Sunday a $10.00 p/p koha/donation is expected.
